Motorcyclist dies after collision with truck
Update: A man injured in a motorcycle crash earlier this week has died. The Riverside County Coroner’s office has identified the rider as 77-year-old Donnie Howard Sr. of Palm Desert. Officials said Howard died at the hospital Thursday night.
A motorcyclist is in critical condition after colliding with a truck Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened at 2:40 p.m. According to Sgt Chris Saucier of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, the motorcyclist was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
The California Highway Patrol incident log listed the accident as a fatality, but according to a DHS spokesperson who spoke with hospital officials, the motorcyclist is in critical condition on a ventilator.
Southbound lanes of Highway 62 are closed from Indian Canyon to Pearson Blvd. Those lanes remained closed until around 11:15 p.m. as police investigated and cleared the scene.
The driver of the truck cooperated with police and it does not appear that drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the accident.
According to Saucier, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
