First Alert Weather Alert: Winter storm briefly departs east before returning overnight

A cold and wet winter storm moved steadily into the Valley today which brought rain, wind and snow in high elevation areas.

The First Alert Weather Team issued a First Alert Weather Alert for today in anticipation of the impactful weather. Wind, rain, and snow can make travel difficult around the region as the storm system lingers into Monday.

As the cold air moves in, snow levels will drop below 4,000'. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Monday due to the potential for heavy snow above 5,000'.

If we're talking about a storm in the desert, we've got to talk about wind. A Wind Advisory went into effect at 6:00 a.m. until 8 a.m. tomorrow. Stake down any holiday decorations, as gusts are expected to exceed 30 MPH.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible overnight into Monday before the rain begins to taper off tomorrow evening. Cold air will settle for the start of the next work week.
