Winds impacting valley residents this breezy Sunday!

Our First Alert Weather Alert Team has issued a First Alert Weather Alert Day for Sunday.

You can get our latest forecast here and on-air tonight at 6 p.m.

Winds are primarily affecting parts of the Northern Coachella valley, along with sections of the I-10 and pass areas.

We were able to capture video of a street sign off of Varner Road and Monterey Avenue hanging on by one side. Crews took down the sign around 10 a.m. Sunday, CHP confirming the damage was weather related.

Those winds were also difficult to escape in Desert Hot Springs. That's where we heard from business owners and people traveling through the pass areas.

"Doing outdoor markets with a tent is just a difficult to deal with. Customers don't want to come outside and deal with the wind," says Ernesto Draayer, with Farmer in the Dale Market.

Frank Abney is a Cathedral City resident who was headed out to Chino Hills. He shared the following advice for those traveling through the Whitewater pass area.

"Keep both hands on the steering wheel. It's not a flat tire if you feel your car is shifting, it's actually the wind. So keep both hands in the steering wheel, go the speed limit and don't overdo it," says Abney.
