Unhealthy air quality causing community pools to close throughout the valley

The dangerous heat, along with unhealthy air quality caused by nearby fires is making it difficult for people to spend time outdoors.

Saturday morning, both Palm Springs Swim Center and Palm Desert Aquatic Center closed at 10 a.m. because of the poor air quality.

Several families were looking forward to spending some time in the water to help them cope with the ongoing heatwave.

We spoke to one family visiting Palm Springs.

“I did not know it was closed because of air quality, we’ll keep an eye on air quality today. We haven’t decided if we were going to go to the 'Float and Flick as a family," says Athena MacFarland.

Palm Desert's Aquatic Center decided to remain closed for the day, while Palm Springs Swim Center did host their dive-in movie at 7 p.m.

John H. Furbee Aquatics Center in Desert Hot Springs remained open the entire day.
