Tracking thunderstorm activity and possible flooding

A cooling trend begins today as low pressure pushes a ridge of high pressure towards the east and ushers in cooler air from the north. This low pressure system is set to keep temperatures at least five degrees below the seasonal average (106°) through Labor Day weekend!

This cooling trend comes as monsoonal moisture remains in our atmosphere. While temperatures are expected to stay cooler-than-normal, this additional moisture alongside daytime heating may lead to afternoon and evening thunderstorms through Sunday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. tonight due to the possibility of excessive runoff caused by heavy rainfall. A First Alert Weather Alert has been called due to the threat of flooding through tonight. Stay with News Channel 3 for additional updates.

The low pressure system is also set to strengthen onshore winds through this evening. Sustained wind gusts are expected to reach 20-30 mph with peak gusts around 45 mph for wind prone areas like the San Gorgonio Pass.

Mild temperatures are expected to last through the early part of next week before another high pressure system moves in. Temperatures are expected to return to seasonal averages near the end of next week.
