More heat and humidity for the weekend

We are tracking some light rain moving into the eastern valley as of 8:00PM. This weekend will see higher humidity levels as well as the potential for some mountain showers tomorrow (Saturday).

As of just after 10PM, some showers remain in the Coachella Valley. Some showers have also moved up into Joshua Tree National Park. These are light showers and will likely do no more than wet the ground as we are not seeing any reports of measurable rainfall (so far). There are still a few cells which could bring some more showers into the valley over the next few hours.

An Excessive Heat Warning will take effect Saturday morning as the heat risk around the desert increases. The warned area could see temperatures as high as 113°, more than 5° above the average for the weekend.

In addition to the rising temperatures, an increase in humidity will be felt as dew point temperatures climb into the 50s. The added moisture in the atmosphere will allow thunderstorms to develop over Riverside and San Bernardino County mountains Saturday afternoon.

This extra moisture is courtesy of Hurricane Jova, even though it is tracking away from Southern California. The same tropical system will bring a south swell to Southern California beaches this weekend with surf of 5 to 7 feet along Orange and Los Angeles counties.

Cloud cover will continue to increase into Sunday, with partly cloudy skies persisting into early next week. This will aid in the cooling of temperatures to a more seasonable range by Tuesday.

If you're ready for a change in season, the fall equinox is just two weeks away! Curious about the different "starts" to a season? Read about them here.
