Tracking continuing gusty conditions and impacts to air quality
Air quality in the valley right now appears to have improved slightly when compared to this morning. Earlier, we saw near hazardous air quality closer to the Salton Sea, near Mecca.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued an Air Quality Alert for the Coachella Valley. This alert was issued specifically for windblown dust. The alert will expire at 6:00 Friday morning.
We are also continuing to track some elevated wind gusts today, just like we saw yesterday. These gusts will pick up throughout the afternoon and start to peak around the sunset hour. Gusts will persist overnight and into tomorrow morning. Gusts could continue tomorrow, but likely will be not as strong as yesterday or today.
Thankfully, we are still seeing temperatures just below average. The average temperature for today is 103°F.
The next seven days will continue to see temperatures at or below average. temperatures will be in the low triple digits through this weekend before decreasing as we move into next week.
