Pursuit in Palm Desert ends in crash with armored vehicle

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department confirmed a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended near Monterey Avenue and Gerald Ford Drive Saturday morning.

At around 6 a.m. deputies responded to a disturbance call at the 35800 block of Cannon Drive in Palm Desert.

There they learned a vehicle was stolen. The vehicle returned to Cannon drive while deputies were still there. When the driver saw the deputies in the area, he took off at a high speed leading.

Deputies followed the driver, who refused to stop leading to a pursuit.

When the vehicle was surrounded, the suspect backed the vehicle into one of the patrol units slightly damaging the vehicle.

The suspect attempted to run, but was caught and arrested.

Riverside County Sheriff's Department said the driver appeared to be under the influence, and was transported to a local hospital for a more thorough evaluation.

There were no injuries as a result of this pursuit.
