BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A psychologist says forced medication significantly improved the mental condition of a man accused of killing 10 people at a Colorado supermarket in 2021. A judge is considering during a two-day hearing that started Wednesday if 24-year-old Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa is competent to stand trial. He was found mentally competent by experts in late August. But his defense attorney asked for the determination to be debated in court. Alissa’s defense attorney says Alissa has schizophrenia, and cited psychiatric evaluations describing him as “profoundly mentally ill.” The case is before Judge Ingrid Bakke in state district court.
