Coachella schools temporarily placed on lockdown due to shooting nearby

Two schools in Coachella were temporarily placed on a precautionary lockdown after a shooting nearby.

The shooting happened in the area of Highway 111 and 9th Street at around 3:47 p.m.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office told News Channel 3 that the victim said a man pointed a gun at him when he was driving southbound on Highway 111. He then fired a round at him.

The victim was not struck and the suspect left the area, authorities confirmed.

Bobby Duke Middle School and Palm View Elementary were placed on a preventative lockdown due to the police activity. The lockdown was lifted at 4:26 p.m.

No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
