UPDATE 11 A.M.

Riverside County Sheriff's Deputies have called off the search. Deputies said that one person is in custody and that the investigation is ongoing. Another suspect is at large.

Police were actively searching for suspects spotted driving in a stolen vehicle in La Quinta Friday morning.

A statement from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said, "The suspects ran from the vehicle in the area of Shadow Trail. Deputies are actively searching the area for the suspects."

The incident began at 7:51 a.m. when deputies reportedly located a stolen vehicle near Highway 111 and Dune Palms Road.

KESQ News Channel 3 received numerous calls from residents saying a helicopter had been circling overhead with an announcement on a public address speaker for people to lock their doors and to shelter in place.

Residents mentioned hearing the overhead announcement from the Watercolors at La Quinta development just south of Walmart, Rancho La Quinta south of Avenue 48, and a neighborhood along the gated Shadow Trail.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department statement said no additional information was immediately available.

A spokeswoman for the Desert Sands Unified School District said an educational facility at the district headquarters enacted a lock-out for outside visitors but was not locked down.
