Firebirds fall again, this time on the road to Silver Knights
The Henderson Silver Knights scored three goals in the third period to hand the Firebirds their third-straight loss, 5-4, in Nevada on Wednesday night.
Mason Morelli opened the scoring, giving Henderson a 1-0 leading just 2:20 into the game. Coachella Valley evened the score with a Logan Morrison shorthanded goal, assisted by Ryan Winterton four minutes later. The goal was Morrison’s fourth of the season and the secondary helper was awarded to Gustav Olofsson. The Silver Knights regained the lead on a powerplay goal from Gage Quinney at 17:26 of the first period.

Coachella Valley netted two goals in the final five minutes of the second period to take their first lead of the game. Marian Studenic was released from the penalty box and wristed a shot past Silver Knights’ netminder Jiri Patera to tie the game. Ville Ottavainen made a quick pass up to Studenic to help him net his fifth of the season. Max McCormick finished off a 2-on-1 rush with Ottavainen to give the Firebirds the advantage. Kole Lind was given the secondary assist.
The Silver Knights took over in the third period after a great save by Patera to stop McCormick on a shorthanded breakaway. The play went the other way and Brendan Brisson netted a powerplay tally to tie the game. 49 seconds later, Lukas Cormier ripped a shot through traffic to put Henderson back on top. The Silver Knights added some insurance with 1:35 left on a nifty goal by Grigori Denisenko.
Shane Wright redirected a Kole Lind wrist shot with 17 seconds left to pull Coachella Valley within one goal. The strike came on the powerplay and was Wright’s fifth goal of the season. The Firebirds had another powerplay with seven seconds remaining but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Coachella Valley’s man-advantage went 2-for-8 in the loss that dropped their record to 6-5-0-0, while their penalty kill finished the night 4-for-6. The Firebirds outshot the Silver Knights 28-20.
