DHS woman suffers serious injuries after crash in the High Desert
A Desert Hot Springs woman suffered major injuries after a two-vehicle crash along State Route 247 in the High Desert area.
The crash was reported at around 6:50 a.m. in the community of Flamingo Heights, which is about 10 miles north of Yucca Valley.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the 59-year-old woman was driving a Mini Cooper northbound on State Route 247, near Napa Road. The Mini Cooper traveled over double yellow lines into the southbound lanes, crashing head-on with a Chevrolet Malibu being driven by a 27-year-old from Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma resident sustained moderate injuries in the crash. A passenger in his vehicle, a 27-year-old woman from Oklahoma, sustained major injuries.
All three patients were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
CHP continues to investigate the crash. The agency confirmed that alcohol and/or drugs did not appear to have been a factor.

Due to the increased number of crashes on SR-247, the Morongo Basin Office will be deploying additional special enforcement units. These officers will be strictly enforcing traffic laws with emphasis on unsafe passing and speeding on SR-247. Motorists are reminded to be patient, watch their speed, and only pass when it is lawful and safe.
