Olive Crest celebrates the grand opening of Children’s and Family Resource Center in Palm Desert

Olive Crest Inland and Desert Communities is celebrating the grand opening of its new Children’s and Family Resource Center in Palm Desert.

News Channel 3 evening anchor Karen Devine emceed last night's ribbon-cutting event where people could tour the new facility.

It's located on Portola and Country Club set to provide various services for at-risk youth and their families. That includes food, counseling, education and legal counseling for those in need.

"We're trying to go upstream and prevent kids and families from falling to the roaring rapids of the child welfare system. So, if there's a need for food insecurity or a homeless need or vulnerable kids and families that are trying to find services and just don't know the right place to go, it's a really good start here," Tracy Fitzsimmons, executive director of the Inland and Desert Communities.

Olive Crest officials said one in four of all allegations of abuse or neglect made to the child abuse hot-line from Riverside County comes from the Coachella Valley.

They hope the new facilities will help them better deliver their programs and resources to people seeking their help.
