First Alert Weather Alert: Mountain rain and snow with showers in the Coachella Valley
Rain has impacted parts of Southern California since the weekend with significant flooding from the Central Coast to the L.A. Basin. Showers still have the chance to push through the Valley today, with heavier rain in the Riverside and San Bernardino County mountains today and overnight as low pressure slides through.
A First Alert Weather Alert is in effect for the Coachella Valley as we track wet weather across Southern California that has the potential to impact your travel plans. There remains a chance for some showers through Wednesday morning.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for areas to our west through 10 AM Wednesday. The alert doesn't include all of the Coachella Valley but does extend into the northern valley, including Desert Hot Springs.
A Winter Weather Advisory is also in effect for our local mountains. Snow levels will remain relatively high with this system. Light snow may fall as low as 6,000 feet, with the most accumulation occurring above 8,000 feet. This will be in place through 10 AM Wednesday morning.
So far, the rain has mostly avoided the Coachella Valley with only a trace amount of rainfall being reported in Palm Springs. However, the same cannot be said for areas to our west. Over half an inch of rain has been reported in Cabazon and over 4 tenths of an inch has been reported in Whitewater.
Temperatures remain cooler today and Wednesday with the passing of the cold front. Highs rebound into the mid-70s heading into the weekend.
