Construction on Gerald Ford in Palm Desert raises concerns ahead of busy season

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) - A major improvement project on Gerald Ford Drive between Cook Street and El Paseo del Corazon has begun, bringing new pavement, landscaped medians, upgraded sidewalks, improved traffic signals, and underground utility work.

Eastbound lanes will be closed, with one westbound lane open. The city says all businesses will remain open and residents will retain access, but some shop owners worry the closure will hurt visibility and customer traffic during the busy season.

Construction is scheduled through May 26, 2026.
