Warming Up for a Weekend Packed with Holiday Events

Katie Boer

A warm and quiet stretch is ahead for the Coachella Valley as high pressure strengthens over the region through the weekend and into next week. Evening temperatures will still be chilly, but should moderate a bit, climbing out of the upper 40s at least. Tons of activities going on across the valley this weekend, so grab a jacket or sweatshirt, even in the 50s temps will feel chilly.

Moving forward, our highs will gradually climb, reaching the upper 70s by Sunday before pushing into the 80s early next week—running 10–15 degrees above normal. Right now, models are showing a slight chance that highs mid next week could reach or exceed mid-80s. Only a 20-50% chance right now.

As for winds, they'll stay on the lighter side this weekend, but a weak to locally moderate Santa Ana event is expected Monday and Tuesday, bringing occasional gusts near 25–35 mph. However, most of that offshore flow bringing stronger winds to the mountains and coastal slopes--predominately outside of the valley.

Enjoy our nice, warm weather. It'll hold through the next  workweek with dry conditions and mild nights, keeping the overall pattern feeling more like early spring than mid-December.
