Firebirds defeat Silver Knights 4-3 in second back-and-forth matchup
THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – The Coachella Valley Firebirds are living up to their name at the end of their road trip, as they are on fire against the Henderson Silver Knights, taking another win at 4-3.
The Firebirds and Silver Knights had a back-and-forth matchup Friday night and Saturday was no different.
The Firebirds set the tone for the game, being the first with points on the board with a goal netted by Jani Nyman at 15:58. Throughout the first period, the Firebirds and Silver Knights worked to score, each in double digits for shots on goal. Coachella Valley had 15 and Henderson had 10.
The second period started off well for Henderson as the Silver Knights tied the game, but Firebirds Logan Morrison did not let it last for too long. Morrison had back-to-back goals just over two minutes apart for 3-1.
Third period proved to be a comeback for the Silver Knights as Raphael Lavoie had back to back goals of his own, sending the teams into overtime.
But the Firebirds prevailed as Ty Nelson came in at 1:49 for a perfect shot to win the game 4-3.
Coachella Valley will now head back to Acrisure Arena Feb. 13 to face the Tucson Roadrunners for two games before heading back on the road.
