MGN Online

COACHELLA, Calif. (KESQ) -- Northbound lanes of State Route 86 were closed in Coachella at 50th Avenue Thursday morning after a crash involving two big rig semi trucks and another vehicle.

The collisions were reported at around 4:00am, according to the California Highway Patrol.

One semi truck rear-ended another in the northbound lanes. A third vehicle then crashed into the trucks, causing one of the big trucks to catch fire.

No major injuries were reported, but traffic was backing up in the area as crews worked to clear the scene.

The CHP was directing drivers to use alternate routes, including Tyler Street and 50th Avenue to Grapefruit Boulevard.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and to expect delays during the morning commute.
