Despite wind, President’s Day Parade rolls through Downtown Indio
Indio celebrated President’s Day Monday with a parade through downtown as part of the ongoing Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival.
The annual President’s Day Parade began at 9 a.m. along Highway 111, kicking off the day’s activities at the nearby 72nd annual fair and date festival at the Riverside County Fairgrounds.
Grand Marshals include World Amateur Champion boxer and Coachella Valley High School senior Citlalli Ortiz, as well as Lee Espinoza, the “Godfather of Local Boxing” and founder of the Lee Espinoza Boxing Club in Coachella.
Ortiz recently took gold in the 2017 AIDA Women’s Youth Boxing World Championship and is vying to represent the U.S. in the 2020 Olympics, while Espinoza has been training local boxers at his club for 38 years.
Riverside County Fourth District Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and his wife Gladis, also planned to ride during the parade.
The festival continues through Feb. 25. Tickets are $11 for adults, $10 for seniors 55 and older and $9 for youth (kids ages 6 through 12).
Children 5 and under get in free, along with veterans plus three guests with proper identification.
As a reminder, national and regional banks, the Federal Reserve and the United States Postal Service will be closed, observing the holiday.
