World premiere of Sinatra Palm Springs documentary

A new documentary detailing Frank Sinatra’s connection to the Coachella Valley held its world premiere Tuesday night at the Camelot Theaters in Palm Springs as part of Modernism Week.

“Sinatra in Palm Springs: The Place He Called Home” explores Sinatra’s attachment to the Coachella Valley, a place he called home for nearly half a century.

The 92-minute film, directed by Rancho Mirage resident Leo Zahn, spans Sinatra’s five decades in Palm Springs, starting with his post-World War II life and move to his first Palm Springs home in 1947.

“This town for many years was defined by Sinatra and the myth of Sinatra so I wanted to make a film specifically about Sinatra and palm springs, not a biography not a film about his music but this town. Very few people outside of Palm Springs know this was his home for almost 50 years,” Zahn said.

The film also follows the Ol’ Blue Eyes’ marriages to Ava Gardner and Barbara Sinatra, who recently passed away, and his love of local restaurants & bars.

A Q & A segment with the director followed the screening. There was also a post-screening cocktail reception at the Ingleside Inn, one of Sinatra’s favorite places.

If you missed this screening, there will be a second screening this Sunday at 9:30 am
