Sticky Heat Through Friday Before Cooldown Next Week

The Coachella Valley is getting a bit of a break from the thermometer today—but not necessarily from the heat.

Higher humidity and cloud cover have really slowed our warm-up compared to yesterday's record-setting temperatures. Because of that, records is be less likely today, but highs still climb into the 110s the next few days with muggy conditions keeping things sticky.

It's not just our highs. Near-record warm overnight lows are offering very little relief and keep our HeatRisk elevated as our Extreme Heat Warning continues through Friday evening.

There's still a slight chance for an isolated afternoon thunderstorm over the mountains today and Friday, though most of the Valley should remain dry.

The good news arrives this weekend as high pressure finally weakens, kicking off a noticeable cooling trend that brings us near our seasonal average of 107 by Sunday and potentially below average early next week.

We're also watching a potential tropical system next week that could send more clouds and moisture our way Tuesday and Wednesday, with currently about a 20–30% chance for showers/storms depending on how that system continues to develop.
