Palm Springs Police create citizen oversight board for Flock cameras

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) — The Palm Springs Police Department has created a citizen oversight board to address concerns about surveillance technology, including Flock cameras.

Police say the five-member board includes technology experts and critics of police surveillance. The members have not been publicly identified.

The board will operate independently but report to the police chief. Its goal will be to help ensure the department follows city policies when using surveillance technology.

Flock cameras use automated license plate readers to capture vehicle information and can help police investigate crimes.

The creation of the board comes as concerns continue over privacy and how information collected by Flock cameras is used.
