Indio sweeps rival Coachella Valley in DEL girls volleyball

COACHELLA, Calif. (KESQ) -- Indio earned a three-set sweep of Coachella Valley on Tuesday night, winning 25-15, 25-23, 25-13 in the first meeting between the two teams this season.

The Rajahs and Arabs are both competing in the Desert Empire League this year after finishing first and second, respectively, in the Desert Valley League last season.

Indio took the opening set and carried that momentum into the second.

Camila Bernal delivered a kill down the middle before No. 4 Rivir Galviz found the cross-court corner with a well-placed attack.

Coachella Valley answered with strong play at the service line. Senior setter Vanessa Garcia and Stephanie Torres each recorded aces, helping the Arabs build momentum and put themselves in position to even the match.

But Indio rallied from there.

Audra Higgins came up with a pair of big swings to shift the momentum back toward the Rajahs, including an emphatic kill that sparked Indio's late push.

Jessica Reyes then closed out the second set, giving Indio a 2-0 lead heading into the third.

The second set proved to be the most competitive and pivotal of the match, with Indio ultimately pulling away to complete the sweep, winning the match on the road.
