Xavier Prep defeats Palm Desert in four-set Cook Street Clash

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) -- Xavier Prep defeated Palm Desert in four sets on Thursday night in the second edition of the Cook Street Clash this season.

The Saints entered the match looking to build on their five-set victory over the Aztecs last month at Palm Desert.

Xavier Prep controlled the opening set, with junior standout Gracie Frederick providing an offensive spark. The Saints took the first set 25-16.

Palm Desert responded in the second set, staying close with Xavier Prep throughout before pulling away late. Senior Bryce Moranda delivered the winning point as the Aztecs evened the match with a 25-22 victory.

The Saints regained control in the third set.

Frederick continued to make an impact at the net as Xavier Prep pulled away for a 25-15 win, putting the Saints one set away from victory.

Palm Desert battled again in the fourth, refusing to go quietly. The Aztecs kept the set close down the stretch, but Xavier Prep ultimately finished the job.

Emma Thomsen came up big late for the Saints, who secured the fourth set 25-23 to win the match 3-1.

With the victory, Xavier Prep remains undefeated in league play.
