Triple Digits Linger Well into Next Week

Strengthening high pressure will keep the Coachella Valley hot and dry through the weekend and much of next week, with highs near 100 degrees through Sunday before climbing a few degrees early next week.

This will be a significant, long-duration heat wave for the coast and west of the mountains--in fact, the NWS has already issued an Extreme Heat Warning for our neighbors to the West, from 10 tomorrow through 8pm NEXT Thursday. The Coachella Valley is not included in that warning, but our temperatures will still run about 5 degrees above average, with Moderate HeatRisk across the low desert.

Drier air will keep humidity low, but warm overnight temperatures won't help cool things off much as we head into next week.

Periods of offshore flow could also produce gusty northeast winds near the Banning Pass through the weekend--which does increase fire weather concerns.

Looking ahead, high pressure may weaken slightly Monday and Tuesday, but another round of strengthening is possible later next week -- when we'll see highs about 10 degrees above average -- keeping the heat in place all the way into the next following weekend.
