Four candidates vie to lead Coachella after turbulent year in city politics

COACHELLA, Calif. (KESQ) — After a year marked by a mayor’s resignation, controversy over a proposed data center project and efforts to recall city councilmembers, Coachella voters will decide who leads the city in the November election.

Four candidates are running for mayor: incumbent Frank Figueroa, City Councilmember Denise Delgado, Francisco “Frankie” Molina and Jesus “Kino” Gonzalez.

As the mayoral race takes shape, candidates are presenting different ideas for the city’s future, including how City Hall operates, how public resources are managed and how Coachella can attract economic development.

Delgado, who has served on the City Council since 2020, says the city needs a new approach to leadership and the delivery of public services.

Molina, who has criticized the city’s leadership, says Coachella has opportunities for economic growth but believes the city must address concerns about its government.

Molina says those issues must be addressed for the city to move forward.
