Palm Desert dominates Desert Empire League girls tennis finals

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) -- Palm Desert continued its dominance of local girls tennis, winning both the singles and doubles championships at the Desert Empire League finals Wednesday at Xavier College Prep.

In singles, Palm Desert freshman Sophia Foreman defeated fellow freshman Charlotte Brann of Xavier Prep in straight sets to claim the league title.

Foreman delivered a steady performance throughout the match, earning an emotional victory in front of her parents and achieving a goal she had dreamed about since childhood.

"I'm so happy. This has been my dream since I was a little kid seeing all the other girls play on the team," Foreman said. "I actually can't believe it's happening right now. It was unimaginable. I mean, this is something I've been working towards forever, so to finally achieve this goal is — I can't put it into words."

Palm Desert also captured the doubles championship in an all-Aztecs final.

Maren Brown and Olivia Smith prevailed in a thrilling third-set tiebreaker against their Palm Desert teammates to secure the Desert Empire League doubles title.

The Aztecs' sweep of the singles and doubles championships further showcased the program's strength in local girls tennis.
