Fire crews respond to blaze in Desert Hot Springs
A two-alarm fire burned through a commercial building on Palm Drive in Desert Hot Springs on Saturday night. News Channel 3 crews on scene saw numerous Cal Fire fire apparatus from Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs outside the multi-unit strip mall.
Businesses were not open at the time and no one was hurt.
"Something that affects our neighbors affects all of us," said Raquel Medeiros, who works in a medical office in the plaza. "The most important thing is here we have our colleagues from Desert Hot Springs Fire Department doing an exceptional job. The second thing is that no one got hurt."
Medeiros said she is hoping for the best. She is waiting for the officials to allow workers into the building to check on any damage.
Cal Fire Battalion Chief Martinez told News Channel 3's Dani Romero that their crews were on scene within four minutes of the call, which came in at 8:46 on Saturday night. The cause is still under investigation but there are indications the fire started in the attic, Martinez said.
