Cabazon outlet businesses board up in preparation for ‘potential protest’
The stores at the Cabazon outlet malls are boarded up in preparation for a "potential protest."
Communications officerMatt Napier, spokesperson for California Highway Patrol - Banning office, the department got intelligence of a potential protest at the Cabazon outlet malls that eluded to "looting and rioting."
As a precaution for this, authorities have closed the outlet mall and placed units at the exits. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is assisting CHP.
Businesses near the outlet malls have also boarded up, including the nearby McDonald's, which was not boarded up and closed on Tuesday, according to Napier.
Napier said Seminole Road from the Malki exit to the roundabout near the casino is shut down. If people do show up for a protest, they will be allowed to assemble not on Seminole Road.
A spokesperson for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department confirmed that as of 2:30 p.m., there was no "protests or criminal activity in the area."
