Serena Williams returns to WTA Tour at Indian Wells

All eyes were on Stadium One at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden as one of the greatest tennis players of all time made her return to the court Thursday night.

Serena Williams made her grand return to the WTA Tour, taking on Zarina Diyas. Serena is unseeded this year due to her taking time away for the birth of her daughter.

Although it wasn’t the dominant Serena we’ve come to expect, she still gave the very supportive crowd a great performance.

The 2-time tournament champion took care of business in straight sets. 7-5, 6-3 over Diyas.

After the match, Serena was all smiles and happy to be back at Indian Wells.

“It was incredible! You know its been over a year and a kid later and I get to go home now to her and
I’m excited about that right now. Thank you guys so much in supporting me,” Serena said in a post-match interview.

Serena will face 29th ranked Kiki Bertens in round 2.
