Caroline Kennedy speaks in Indian Wells

Former U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy spoke to a sold-out crowd in Indian Wells Thursday as part of the Desert Town Hall speaker series.

Kennedy, the daughter of John F. Kennedy, shared experiences from her ambassador post, which she held from 2013 to 2017.

The attorney and author also spoke to 150 students from local high schools for the Youth Town Hall session, during which she was presented with a book comprised of poems submitted by Coachella Valley residents.

Desert Town Hall recently held a poetry contest for valley residents, and the winner — selected by poet and UC Riverside Palm Desert Professor Jill Alexander Essbaum — was in the audience to hear her speak. Following the contest, a memento book of all the poems submitted was presented to Kennedy.

This year’s series has featured former NSA and CIA head Michael Hayden, former MI6 head Sir John Scarlett, former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and retired astronaut Mark Kelly.

One more lecture remains — on March 28 with “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace.
