Protective order remains in place for Joshua Tree parents charged with child abuse
The Joshua Tree parents accused of housing their children a plywood shed for 4 years appeared in court today. Daniel Panico and Mona Kirk were charged with three felony counts of child abuse on March 2.
The judge has decided to keep a protective order in place with an exception to allow Kirk and Panico to see their children during Children and Family Services-observed visits.
The defense objected to the decision to uphold the order claiming no notice was given inappropriate to issue the injunction without notice or evidence. The defense also claims that it is a violation of the couple’s second amendment rights.

The preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled for April 11.
