Coachella Valley students shadow Riverside County employees
Nearly 100 Coachella Valley high school students shadowed County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and other county employees today during the 15th annual Fourth District Youth in Government Day.
The students from eight participating high schools will convened at the Riverside County Fairgrounds this morning for an all-day lesson in civil service, which included following Perez and 44 other county employees.
The 94 students paired up with mentors in the morning, then regrouped, following six hours of shadowing employees in the county’s departments of Animal Services, Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, District Attorney’s Office, Economic Development Agency-Housing Authority, Human Resources, Probation, Public Social Services, Riverside University Health System-Behavioral Health, Sheriff’s Department, Transportation, and Treasurer-Tax Collector.
“This event is a unique mentoring program that allows students to experience an introduction to the variety of career choices available in public service, specifically, county government,” said Fourth District Supervisor Perez. “I look forward to showing a student how local government impacts our
daily life in the Coachella Valley by sharing a day in the life of a county supervisor.”
