Inmate dies at County Correctional center in Banning

An inmate died after becoming ill while jailed at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, authorities said Monday.

The inmate died Sunday from a life-threatening illness at a hospital, Sgt. Richard Carroll of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

“The unidentified male was hospitalized for a few days where he was receiving medical treatment for his illness,” Carroll said.

No foul play was suspected, he said. Detectives were investigating and the man’s name wasn’t released pending notification of relatives.
