Hikers find human remains at Joshua Tree National Park

Human skeletal remains were found at Joshua Tree National Park Thursday, officials confirmed today.

According to a news release by the National Park Service, a group of hikers found the remains in the Stubbe Springs Loop area of the park sometime Thursday. That part of the park is considered Riverside County, said George Land, the park’s public information officer.

Park rangers were accompanied by Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigators and collected the remains and other evidence from the scene for testing and analysis by forensic specialists.

At this time the identity of the subject is unknown.
