Backyard fire spreads to home before fire crews arrive

A fire that broke out in the backyard of a Coachella residence Saturday spread to the home before firefighters were able to contain it.

Flames broke out around 12:30 p.m. at a single-story home in the 84000 block of Via Conchilla, just north of Avenue 50, said April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department. The first arriving engine company reported a single story, single family dwelling, approximately 1,200 square foot in size, with an exterior fire in the backyard that extended to the residence.

There did not appear to be any injuries, nor was the red cross utilized. No other details were released.
