Palm Springs firefighters host 87th Annual Fish Fry

A Palm Springs tradition was alive and well Saturday night.

The Palm Springs Fire Department invited the community to Ruth Hardy Park for the 87th Annual Fish Fry. The event began as a spaghetti dinner, but the main course changed about 50 years ago.

“It originally started as a kick off to the summer when most families left for the summer because it was hot out here,” said Jess Van Lierop with the PSFD. “This is our way of giving back to the community. It benefits us 100 percent.”

About 100 people turned out. Hamburgers and hot dogs were also served. The fish fry is held the first Saturday every June.
