Husband & wife graduating together at CSUSB Palm Desert Campus
A valley husband and wife will have a lot to celebrate this week.
Luis and Wendy Castaneira are both getting their bachelor’s degree together from Cal State San Bernardino Palm Desert next Thursday.
Luis will receive his degree in criminal justice while Wendy will receive hers in nursing. Both are not only graduating together, but they are graduating cum laude with honors.
The Castaneiras are both first-generation college students who have been together for 11 years and have four children. They are both originally from out of the area but moved to Twentynine Palms in 2010 when Luis joined the military and was stationed at the Marine Base.
Wendy plans on working on the labor and delivery floor at a hospital in the Coachella Valley, and once she has gained experience, obtain a master’s degree in midwifery. Luis plans to apply for a juvenile probation officer position with Riverside or San Bernardino counties.
They both hope their graduations will inspire their children to be scholars when they grow up.
