Roads reopen in Palm Springs after Major Injury Traffic Collision

Roads are now reopened in all directions on Ramon Road and Gene Autry in Palm Springs after police investigated a major injury traffic collision late Saturday night.

Dispatchers received calls of a traffic collision involving a vehicle that was on fire last night at 11:10 P.M. When officers arrived, they found a female driver unconscious in a Toyota SUV with its engine on fire. Officers were able to rescue the female from the SUV and take her to a safe area.

Officers also found another female trapped inside a Volkswagon Jetta. Palm Springs Fire Department firefighters and paramedics crews were able to extracate her from the Jetta. She was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

The Palm Springs Police Department is investigating. They say drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the crash officers concluded.

The intersection of Ramon Road and Gene Autry was shut down in all directions and was closed for several hours for the investigation.
