Local veterans react to historic US-North Korea summit

Local veterans are weighing in on the historic US-North Korea summit.

“The attitude I think is very positive, it’s hopeful, it’s gleaned a lot of respect for this president from people that vowed they would never respect him and I happen to be one of those, ” said Rick Johnson, U.S. Air Force Security Service Veteran.

The U.S. and North Korea made a commitment today to recover POW and MIA remains, including those that have been previously identified. If President Trump delivers on this promise, some families could receive the closure they have waited decades for.

“That period of question is a difficult time for family members and in particularly loved ones,” said Johnson.

Some say they are surprised by President Donald Trump’s offer to stop joint military exercises with South Korea, but they’re calling the denuclearization of North Korea, if it happens, a step in the right direction.
