Coachella Valley worries of possible family separation amid border crossing controversy
The Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy on immigration has drawn ire from both the left and right. Children are being torn from their families at border crossings, and one local family is concerned that these issues may extend beyond the immigration process.
A family living roughly 45 miles outside of the central Coachella Valley sat down with Katie Widner, and expressed their fears.
“This is her country,” said mother Elisa. “In my country, there is no future for her.”
Elisa is speaking of her daughter Amilee, a U.S. citizen born on American soil. Amilee may be protected, but she fears for her parents, who are undocumented.
“They’re always worried about what is going to happen, said Amilee. “What if they leave and they never return?”
