Father of slain PSPD Officer Zerebny sworn in as part-time officer
For 30 years, David Kling served as an officer of the California Highway Patrol. His daughter, Lesley Zerebny, followed in his law enforcement footsteps, joining the Palm Springs Police Department in 2015.
On October 8, 2016, Lesley and her partner, Jose “Gil” Vega, were killed in the line of duty when responding to the scene of a domestic disturbance call in Palm Springs.
Gil and Lesley may be gone, but their memory lives on in the law enforcement community, a law enforcement community which is welcoming back a once-retired California Highway Patrol officer.

Yesterday, David Kling was sworn in alongside several new officers to the Palm Springs Police Department. Kling will work part-time as an officer assigned to the Palm Springs International Airport, according to Police Chief Brian Reyes.
It is unclear at this time when Kling will begin his work at PSP.
Sgt.William Hutchinson, the department’s public information officer, was also promoted to lieutenant yesterday.
The man accused of fatally shooting Zerebny and Vega, John Felix Hernandez, is due back in court in October. His tentative jury trial date is set for Oct. 23.
