City of Coachella hosts early Fourth of July celebration
Sunday evening the City of Coachella hosted a free festival in the park to celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July. The event had live music, food, carnival rides, games and more for attendees.
“The city is celebrating Fourth of July…we’re a little bit early. It’s an opportunity for the community to come out and enjoy the atmosphere, the fun the games the community …and also get information about different departments that are within the city,” said Berlinda Blackburn, Conservation Coordinator for the City of Coachella.
Visitors to the park were able to taste foods from local vendors, win prizes, and even register to vote at the event. The City of Coachella Water Authority provided free water for visitors to cool down.
“I think today is a great day because it’s a Sunday, you’re winding down your weekend and there’s this opportunity to top it off with a great firework show [and] games for the kids,” said Berlinda.
Many visitors found out about the event on Facebook, but others just stumbled upon the event and decided to join in on the fun. “We were just skating around and saw the rides and we got interested,” said Alex, a local resident.
Other families said they’re grateful for the opportunity to spend quality time with each other for free, and hope the city continues to host fun summer events.
