Locals celebrate National Ice Cream Day
People celebrated National Ice Cream Day on Sunday and many people took advantage of Baskin-Robbins’ special deals the company featured in their mobile apps.
“Oh my gosh the line […] this herd of people just kept coming,” said Baskin-Robbins employee Angelica Bracamonte. “They’ll use our coupons, there’s buy one get one free…there’s [also a] buy one get one for 99 cents,” she said.
People across the country used the hashtag #nationalicecreamday on both instagram and Twitter. Some learned about the day through social media or simply by word of mouth.
“Well I called my mom yesterday because it was their 67th wedding anniversary yesterday and she [said], ‘You have to go have ice cream tomorrow it’s national ice cream day,'” said Barbara Fischer, a Baskin-Robbins customer.
Baskin-Robbins sold several “Freak Shakes” — their new item and take on Starbucks’ multi-colored “Unicorn Frappuccino” that was popular last year.
Other ice cream companies such as Haagen Dazs and Ben & Jerry’s surprisingly did not have any special deals to celebrate the day. Customers say they’re grateful for the discounted treats.
