Caltrans begins repairs of I-10, Highway 111, and Highway 86

Caltrans announces it has begun work on replacements and repairs of 149 lane miles along Interstate 10, and Highway 111 and State Highway 86.

The $17 million project is funded by Senate Bill 1, workers will fill potholes and repave and resurface the roads.

The work on Interstate-10 will stretch from Jefferson Street to Polaris Wash, on Highway 111 from Lincoln Street to State Route-86 and on State Route-86 from the Imperial County Line to Interstate-10. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, use alternate routes, and “Be Work Zone Alert.”

Caltrans says drivers can expect lane closures between the hours of midnight and 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Advance warning signs will inform motorist of closures.

The project is expected to last seven months, however, the work schedule may change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

One of the lesser known benefits of these repairs is improved freight movement and operational efficiency. According to Caltrans, nearly one-fifth of vehicles that use the I-10 carry freight, the weight of which contributes to rapid road surface deterioration.
