Border Patrol rescues injured teen left behind by smuggler
Border Patrol agents rescued a 17-year-old Mexican girl who was smuggled into the country and left was behind after suffering an injury.
According to a news release by Border Patrol, Thursday at around 10 p.m., agents encountered two individuals walking north near Anza and Bowker Road east of Calexico. The pair told agents that they had illegally jumped over the wall with another person who was left behind because she was hurt and could not continue.
Agents then tracked footprints left behind south toward the border wall. Near the wall, agents encountered a young woman face down in the dirt with a lower leg fracture. Agents trained as emergency medical technicians quickly responded and treated the woman, who agents say was in and out of consciousness. She also showed signs of fatigue, heat exhaustion, had active bleeding, and a fracture to the lower left leg.
Local medical providers, including firefighters and paramedics, arrived at the scene shortly after. Medical personnel treated the distressed woman and took her to the hospital for further treatment.
