Law enforcement, family of missing woman plead for public’s help
Yesterday, police renewed a call for help in locating a woman who disappeared earlier this month after walking into the desert near Cathedral City to search for her dog.
Velva Jacklin, 54, was last seen July 7 at a Chevron station at 22600 Palm Drive. Her boyfriend told police that Jacklin walked into the desert near the gas station to look for her brown chihuahua and never returned.
Jacklin’s daughter, Nina Duran, spoke with KESQ & CBS Local 2 about her mother’s disappearance today.
“I go driving every day down there to look for my mom,” said Duran. “I honestly feel my moms not alive anymore. I know she’s not, I can feel it.”
Jacklin, who is known to frequent the Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs areas, suffers from a variety of unspecified medical conditions and is without needed medication, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.
“We went out and extensively canvassed the area where she was last seen,” said Sergeant Rick Sanchez of the Cathedral City Police Department. “[We’ve] gone with bloodhounds and tried to pick up a scent from her — we’ve requested the assistance of an air unit that drove overhead.”
But still, nothing. Sanchez says the disappearance isn’t considered suspicious but did express concerns about Jacklin going without her medication.
Jacklin was described as white, 5-foot-3 and weighing 115 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white shirt, gray gym shorts and a tan baseball cap.
The department said that after disseminating her photo, detectives “received some information from the public” about Jacklin, but she remains missing.
Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts was asked to contact the Cathedral City Police Department at (760) 770-0303.
