As Cranston Fire nears full containment, Idyllwild residents come together for ‘National Night Out’

All across the country Tuesday night, festivals, block parties and parades were being held for ‘National Night Out.’ The event honors first responders and aims to connect them with the communities they serve.

The night had extra meaning for residents in Idyllwild who had been back at home for a little more than a week after emergency evacuations were lifted.

“The fire was coming over the ridge. They told us that if the fire retardant didn’t stop the fire over there, this whole neighborhood would be gone,” recalled Bob Rahman, an 18-year-member of the Mountain Community Patrol.

The night gave residents, first responders, city leaders, and volunteer organizations the chance to come together to celebrate mountain life and those who protect it.

“Thank you to all the firefighters, thank you to all the support we’ve had,” said Scott McCormack, owner of ‘The Village Market.’

The next night out for Idyllwild residents is this Thursday for the Summer series, ‘Jazz in the Pines.’
