Young & talented, Coachella Valley looks to stay on top in 2018

The Coachella Valley football team got that taste last season when they did something that hadn’t been done in four decades.

“We won one now it is time to go get a ring,” Angelo Fitzgerald said.

Sometimes building on success is harder than finding success.

“We talk about the repeat and that’s going to be tougher to do. Tough when you have so many new faces,” Brett Davis said.

Just two returning starters on the offensive side of the ball.

“There is going to be some growing pains here early,” Davis said.

Replacing quarterback Armando Deniz who threw for near 7,000 yards in his career. In now comes sophomore Donny Fitzgerald as last year he was a freshman catching passes.

“I been playing older but it wasn’t really a big challenge to me. Just stepped up and filled the shoes I had to fill,” Donny Fitzgerald said.

Now he might just be the best QB in the league.

“I think he is hands down,” Davis said.

“I think Donny is more sharp when it comes down to the wire, towards the end of a game,” Angelo said.

“I don’t let big games get to me I just go get it done,” Donny said.

From the backfield last season to wide receiver this season, he will be able to throw to his brother Angelo Fitzgerald.

“Throwing to each other since they were little kids so that will be a connection that is always there,” Davis said.

And the defense returning nine starters from last year so that could be a nice recipe for success.

The 2018 high school football previews will air up until the season starts, which is Friday, August 17th for some of our area teams.
